Medium to high at the start: deciding what’s genuinely useful, writing, testing it with a few real users and setting up a shop page. After that, mostly updates and marketing.
Low. A shop or marketplace account (many charge listing or transaction fees, so check their current terms) and your time.
What AI actually does here
- Interviews you with structured questions to pull the knowledge out of your head.
- Turns your rough notes into a clear outline, checklist or template you then correct.
- Drafts product descriptions, FAQs and instructions, which you check for accuracy and honesty.
Tools to look at
- General assistants (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) for interviewing and drafting
- Document and design tools (Google Docs, Canva, Notion) to produce the files
- A marketplace or your own shop to sell from; read each platform’s rules on AI content first
Named tools are examples, not endorsements. We have no paid relationships with them at the moment; see our disclosure.
What you need first
- Real expertise. A pack that is just AI output with no experience behind it is easy to copy and hard to sell.
- The platform’s rules. For example, Amazon KDP requires you to declare AI-generated text, images or translations when you publish, but not content that is only AI-assisted.
- Honest marketing. The ASA has warned that money-making claims must not imply exceptional results are typical, and disclaimers can’t rescue a misleading headline.
- Basic records of what you sell, and a check of whether you need to tell HMRC.
How to tell if it’s working
- Hours spent creating each product against what it has brought in so far.
- Refunds, complaints and questions: a sign of what to improve.
- Whether buyers come back or recommend it, rather than one-off sales.
What the evidence says
We don’t publish sales or income figures. Results vary widely, and many products sell few or no copies. The rules we cite (KDP’s AI disclosure, the ASA’s guidance on money-making claims and HMRC’s trading allowance) are from the official pages listed below.

My field: [e.g. running a small nursery, managing a dental practice rota]
Who it's for: [e.g. new practice managers]
Step 1: Ask me 10 questions, one at a time, that draw out what I know that a newcomer gets wrong. Wait for each answer.
Step 2: When I've answered, propose a pack of 3 to 5 items (checklists, templates, a short guide) with a one-line purpose for each.
Step 3: For the first item, draft it in plain British English, marking with [CHECK] anything I must verify and [MY EXAMPLE] where I should add a real example.
Step 4: Write an honest product description: who it's for, what's inside, what it won't do. No income, results or time-saving promises.Sources
